The deep ocean is an aquatic biome in Minecraft, known for its depth and unique terrain. It is generally deeper than normal oceans, with the seabed at around Y=30, compared to Y=45 for regular oceans. The deep ocean floor is rugged, featuring many peaks and valleys, mostly covered in gravel but also with patches of clay, dirt, and sand. Ravines can sometimes generate on the ocean floor, forming underwater trenches. Ocean monuments are commonly generated in deep oceans, structures guarded by guardians and elder guardians. Inhabitants of the deep ocean include dolphins, cod, salmon (Bedrock Edition only), and squid. Due to its depth and aquatic nature, the deep ocean is a challenging area for players, but also holds rich resources and structures within its depths.
