Frozen River

  • English: Frozen River
The Frozen River in Minecraft is a special biome that replaces normal rivers in snowy biomes. It is characterized by its surface covered in a layer of ice, with flowing water underneath. Despite the icy surface, players can still fish by breaking the ice or melting it using a heat source. Frozen Rivers are commonly found on the edge of Snowy Plains biomes, and their riverbeds consist of dirt, sand, gravel, and clay, with clay being one of the few places where it generates. While seagrass doesn't generate in Frozen Rivers, sugarcane can sometimes appear along the banks, though it often uproots itself quickly due to the frozen water. Players can find creatures such as salmon and squid in frozen rivers, but they'll also encounter hostile mobs like drowned and skeletons at night. Frozen Rivers were added to Minecraft in the Adventure Update in 2011, and their generation algorithm was tweaked in the Caves & Cliffs update in 2021.
