In Minecraft, 'Blindness' is a status effect that severely impairs a player's vision. When a player is affected by Blindness, their field of view is greatly reduced, and a thick black fog appears around them, limiting visibility to a very small area nearby. Blindness also prevents players from sprinting and inflicting critical hits, although it does not stop an ongoing sprint. This effect can be obtained by consuming suspicious stew made with either an azure bluet or open eyeblossom, or it can be cast by illusioners. The Blindness effect does not affect mobs; only players are impacted. However, a mob called the Warden in the game is naturally blind and relies on sound and vibrations to perceive its surroundings. Players can remove the Blindness effect by drinking milk, and in Minecraft Education and Bedrock Editions, eye drops can also be used. Blindness differs from the Darkness effect, which completely obscures a player's vision, whereas Blindness leaves a small visible area centered around the player. The game also offers accessibility features for blind players, such as menu navigation and speech-to-text, to help them experience the game better. In some cases, the blindness effect can be used to create foggy scenes in the game.
