In Minecraft, "Poison" is a negative status effect that gradually depletes a player's health over time. The poison effect will not directly cause death, but it reduces health to a minimum of 1 (half a heart). If the poison effect persists and the player regains health, the effect will reactivate until health is reduced to 1 again. The regular "Poison" effect can be cured by drinking milk or honey. Additionally, in Minecraft: Education Edition and Bedrock Edition with education options enabled, it can be cured by using an antidote. Main sources of poison include consuming poisonous foods (such as pufferfish, spider eyes, poisonous potatoes), attacks by cave spiders or bees, and drinking potions of poison. There is also a variant called "Fatal Poison" which exists in Bedrock Edition. Fatal Poison can kill a player, even when health has been reduced to 1. Fatal poison is generally only obtainable through cheating, but in survival mode, feeding a parrot a cookie causes the parrot to instantly be inflicted with Fatal Poison and die shortly after. It is important to note that undead mobs, spiders, cave spiders, and the ender dragon are immune to poison. Witches have an 85% resistance to poison damage in Java Edition, and are fully immune in Bedrock Edition.
