Puar

Puar (プーアル, Pūaru) is a character in the Dragon Ball series, and is Yamcha's lifelong best friend. He is a shapeshifting animal that resembles a cat or rabbit, but is not actually either species. Puar's name is a pun on Pu-erh tea. He attended Southern Transformation Kindergarten, where he was classmates with Oolong, who used to bully him. Puar and Yamcha were originally a pair of desert bandits, but later joined Goku's group in their search for the Dragon Balls. His most notable ability is shapeshifting, allowing him to transform into any object and maintain that form indefinitely, unlike Oolong, who can only hold a form for five minutes. Puar is fiercely loyal to Yamcha, often following his orders without hesitation and showing great concern for his well-being. In Dragon Ball Z, Puar appears numerous times as a supporting character, and often displays sadness witnessing the deaths of his friends. Though Puar is generally considered a male character, he was sometimes misidentified as female in English dubbed versions.
