Arthur (アーサー, Āsā) is a fictional character in Namco's Soulcalibur fighting game series. He first appears in Soulcalibur, where he replaces Mitsurugi in regions like Korea that discouraged samurai imagery. Arthur is visually identical to Mitsurugi, except with blond hair and an eyepatch. His weapon, moveset, and ending are the same as Mitsurugi's. In Soulcalibur III, Arthur returns as a bonus character, with distinct facial features (clearly Caucasian) and a unique weapon. He represents the 'Katana' Create-a-Fighter discipline. His Soulcalibur III outfit is a modified version of Mitsurugi’s 1P outfit from Soulcalibur II, with different colors and armor. Arthur appears again in Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny and Soulcalibur VI, but in these games he is a custom character without unique body parts, and in Soulcalibur VI has a face that slightly differs from Mitsurugi's with facial hair. Arthur has a complex backstory; a former beggar from an English harbor town, he became a sailor, adopted by a Japanese merchant, and ultimately a warrior. Struggling with his identity, he seeks the cursed Soul Edge to prove his worth. After losing his love, he sets out to destroy Soul Edge to prevent further tragedies.
