Assassin

Original Title:アサシン

Languages:

  • Chinese: 刺客
  • Japanese: アサシン
  • English: Assassin
The "Assassin" (アサシン) in the Soulcalibur series refers to various non-player characters (NPCs) that have appeared multiple times throughout the games. They first appeared as NPCs in Soulcalibur II (in the original Japanese release) and later as unlockable characters in overseas versions; in Soulcalibur III, they appeared again as NPCs; and in Soulcalibur Legends, they appear as common enemies. In the North American and European console ports of Soulcalibur II, the Assassin is a generic unlockable character available only in Practice, Team Battle, and Versus modes. Although their fighting style is based on Hwang Seong-gyeong's moves from Soulcalibur, they have no biographical connection to any character in the series. The Assassin's weapon is the Chinese Blade known as the "Assassin Blade". Regarding their background, it is rumored that they are private mercenaries and hired killers of a powerful lord or spy from the East, but their true origin is unknown. It is speculated that they are also searching for fragments of the "Soul Edge". In Soulcalibur III, the Assassin is one of the few surviving members of Astaroth's sect, Fygul Cestemus, and uses kunai as a weapon, employing kunai, kaiken, or throwing needles. In Character Creation mode, the Assassin is also a job that can be created, with weapons including Chinese Sword, Wave Sword, Kunai, Soul of Tira, and Soul of Lizardman. In Soulcalibur Legends, the Assassin appears as a common enemy in their initial outfit from Soulcalibur II, wielding the Dragon Sword from Soulcalibur III.
