Algol is a character in the Soulcalibur series of fighting games, debuting as one of the main antagonists in Soulcalibur IV. He is often considered one of the strongest characters in the series and is unlocked as a playable character after defeating him in Story Mode. Algol is the creator and original wielder of both the Soul Calibur and Soul Edge swords. Once known as the "Hero King," he was forced to kill his own son, Arcturus, when he became possessed by Soul Edge, leading him to create Soul Calibur as a countermeasure and sealing his soul within the Astral Chaos. In Soulcalibur IV, Algol's soul awakens and reforms his body, seeking to control the world. He possesses immense power, capable of generating weapons from his body, including energy cannons, replicas of Soul Edge, and Soul Calibur. His fighting style is unique, characterized by strong ranged attacks and powerful melee combos, as well as control over the Astral Chaos. His design is inspired by ancient civilizations with bird-like motifs, creating a mysterious and powerful presence. Algol reappears in Soulcalibur V with less clothing and greater power, though some players consider him too overpowered for a regular playable character.
