Fujinami

Fujinami is a destroyer kanmusu (ship girl) in the game Kantai Collection (KanColle), and the 11th ship of the Yuugumo-class destroyers. She was implemented on February 11, 2017, initially as a drop reward in the 2017 Winter Event, “Reconnaissance Force Emergency Deployment! Operation ‘Light’”. Fujinami is notable for her unique hairstyle and attire, featuring a hair tie behind her right ear and a white ribbon with a red edge, which is said to be inspired by Choukai Kai Ni’s outfit. She has an efficient personality and likes to shorten words to two characters, with a catchphrase being “Mochi (of course)”. Fujinami is close with other members of her destroyer division, including Okinami, Hamanami, and Hayanami, whom she often takes care of. In battle, she shows a brave side, especially excelling at night combat, often yelling a battle cry, “I won’t lose!!” Despite not caring much about her battle achievements, she will show a shy smile when awarded MVP. Historically, Fujinami participated in the Battle of Leyte Gulf and tragically sunk while rescuing survivors of Choukai. In the game, Fujinami also reflects her historical connection with Choukai. She is often paired in fan works with Choukai, Matsukaze, Hamanami, and Hayanami.
