I-47 is a character in the game "Kantai Collection" (KanColle), based on the Imperial Japanese Navy submarine I-47. She is a Type C Cruiser submarine who prefers to be called "Yonna." I-47 was laid down in November 1942, launched in September of the following year, but not completed until July 1944. Despite being completed late in the war, she still completed several voyages, including being converted into a Kaiten suicide torpedo carrier. Out of five sorties, she managed to sink the oil tanker USS Mississinewa and damage a small cargo ship, making her one of the most successful Kaiten ships. I-47 survived the war and was scuttled in April 1946. Some of her crew attempted a mutiny after the surrender, which was unsuccessful. In the game, she has a gentle personality and several lines reference her history, such as inviting the admiral to enjoy her handmade ice cream, based on a true story of a submarine commander offering ice cream to Kaiten crews. The bamboo raft behind her torpedo tube also references her rescue of stranded soldiers.
