Matsu

Matsu (まつ) is a Kanmusu character in the game *Kantai Collection* (艦隊これくしょん, KanColle). She is the lead ship of the Matsu-class destroyer, a Type D destroyer named after the pine tree, 'Matsu.' In the game, Matsu is portrayed as a young girl, reflecting her role as a small destroyer. Her design is inspired by the real-life Imperial Japanese Navy’s Matsu-class destroyers, which were intended to be a cheap and standardized class for escort duties. Matsu is characterized by her gentle nature and her escort duty. Though not particularly powerful, she is dedicated to her role as part of a fleet. In *KanColle*, Matsu is typically acquired as an event reward or through other means. Her interactions with her sister ships and her performance in the game's story have won her popularity with the player base. Overall, Matsu is a representative Kanmusu in *Kantai Collection*, embodying the game’s ship personification feature.
