Shounan

Shounan (しょうなん) is a character in the game Kantai Collection (艦隊これくしょん, KanColle), a Fleet Girl of the Hiburi-class Coastal Defense Ship and is the 3rd ship of her class. She is based on the real-life Japanese coastal defense ship of the same name from World War II, and is personified as a young girl. In the game, Shounan specializes in Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and is equipped with primarily ASW equipment. She is often deployed on escort missions, especially against submarine threats. Shounan is depicted as serious and responsible, often mentioning escort duties and specifically “Hi convoys”. Her illustrations are by the artist Shibafu, and her voice actress is Yurika Moriyama. In the game, Shounan can be remodeled (Kai) to become more powerful and gain new equipment. She represents the challenges and significance of Hiburi-class Coastal Defense Ships in maritime escort duties during the late stages of World War II, making her an integral part of the game. Her voice lines and dialogues reflect her historical context and responsibilities. Players can obtain Shounan from event maps or certain drop locations.
