Kotemon

Kotemon (コテモン) is a fictional character in the Digimon franchise, first appearing in 1997. It is a Reptile Digimon themed around Kendo, typically classified as a Rookie level Digimon. Kotemon's design is inspired by Japanese Kendo protective gear, wearing a mask (men) on its head and gloves (kote) on its hands, equipment used in Kendo practice. Kotemon usually wields a bamboo sword (shinai) and appears as a quiet but diligent character. Although not verbose, it always practices swordsmanship diligently. Kotemon's attack techniques also reflect its Kendo theme, such as “Fire Men” and “Thunder Kote,” which usually enhance Kendo strikes with elemental energy. Kotemon has appeared in many Digimon anime series, manga, video games, and card games. Its unique design and swordsman setting make it a popular character among fans. In some stories, Kotemon also plays a mentoring role, passing on the spirit of Kendo to other characters.
