Mike Bison, known as Balrog in the West, is a fictional character in the Street Fighter series. He first appeared as a non-playable boss character in Street Fighter II, later becoming playable in Street Fighter II: Champion Edition. He is a greedy American boxer who loves booze, gambling, and ladies. He also serves as M. Bison's personal bodyguard. In Japan, the character was originally known as Mike Bison, but in the US and Europe, his name was changed to Balrog to avoid legal issues with boxer Mike Tyson, while M. Bison was used to refer to Vega from Japan. Within the game's storyline, Mike Bison was once the world heavyweight boxing champion but was banned from the sport for fouling and causing an opponent's death. He subsequently joined the criminal organization Shadaloo, becoming a major enforcer for its leader, M. Bison. Mike Bison is known for his immense strength and charging attacks, and he is portrayed as a simple-minded yet ambitious character with a desire for wealth and power. Despite his crude personality, he forms an unusual friendship with his adopted son, Ed.
