Jarek is a character in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series, first appearing in Mortal Kombat 4. He was initially depicted as the brutish and short-tempered second-in-command of the Black Dragon clan. In the games, he initially utilized Kano's special moves and fatalities, later explained by stating that Jarek was once a student of Kano. Due to his lack of originality, he was labeled a somewhat uninspired character by the Mortal Kombat fanbase. He would later gain his own unique moveset in Armageddon. Jarek made his first chronological appearance in Mortal Kombat: Special Forces, when Kano freed him and other Black Dragon members from a U.S. Special Forces detention facility. Kano proposed to reform the Black Dragon, but in reality merely wished to use them to slow down any Special Forces agents who may have followed him. Jarek was stationed as head of security at a downtown office which the clan was using as a front for their activities. Later, Jarek fled to Edenia and temporarily allied with Sonya Blade and Jax to fight Shinnok. However, after Shinnok's defeat, he resisted being turned over to the Special Forces and tried to escape, ultimately being presumed dead after a confrontation with Jax, but he survived. Jarek returned in Armageddon, allied with Quan Chi, participating in the final battle. Jarek's facial appearance was based on Mortal Kombat character designer and modeler Herman Sanchez.
