Mortal Kombat is an American media franchise centered on a series of fighting video games originally developed by Midway Games in 1992. The initial idea was to create a video game starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, but when that idea fell through, a science fantasy-themed fighting game was created instead. Nevertheless, the developers paid homage to him with Johnny Cage, a fictional film star whose personal style resembles Van Damme's. Mortal Kombat is known for its high levels of graphic violence, especially its "Fatalities," which are finishing moves that kill defeated opponents instead of knocking them out. The series is also noted for its realistic digitized sprites and extensive use of palette swapping to create new characters. In addition to action-adventure games, comic book series, a card game, films, an animated TV series, and a live-action tour, Mortal Kombat has become one of the best-selling fighting game franchises worldwide and one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time. The Xenomorph, also referred to as the Alien, is an endoparasitoid extraterrestrial organism known for its appearance in the Alien science-fiction horror film series. It stands out in the sci-fi genre as an animalistic parasite and has helped establish the Alien franchise as one of the greatest and most recognized in cinema history. The Xenomorph made its debut as a playable guest character in Mortal Kombat X through DLC as part of Kombat Pack 2. In Mortal Kombat, the Xenomorph typically retains its characteristics from its original film appearance, but with some adjustments depending on the version. For instance, in Mortal Kombat X, the Xenomorph combines traits from the Tarkatan race, featuring a shorter head, shorter dorsal tubes, sharp teeth, and a more muscular frame. The Xenomorph has multiple variations in the game, each with different abilities and visual traits, such as the Acidic variation, which has acidic blood oozing from its tail, and the Konjurer variation, which can summon other Xenomorphs to assist in combat.
