Ruby

Ruby is a non-canon female red ninja character from the Mortal Kombat series, first appearing in the animated series *Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm*. She bears a resemblance to Tanya and Jade. Similar to Jade, she was a friend of Kitana and came from a realm called Hinpar, which was invaded by Shao Kahn. Ruby is notorious for her betrayal, much like Tanya in the games, betraying all her allies for Shao Kahn. It is assumed she may have been the killer of Jax's grandfather, as she stated she 'took care' of him. In *Defenders of the Realm*, Ruby secretly worked for Shao Kahn, trying to locate the Earthrealm warriors' base. While Jax was captured, she helped the Earthrealm warriors escape, but ultimately decided to remain in Outworld. In *Federation of Martial Arts*, Ruby was killed, and Jax was mistakenly accused, but the true killer was revealed to be a shapeshifting Black Dragon ninja. Although she hasn't appeared in any games, Kitana had an alternate outfit resembling Ruby in *Deadly Alliance* for Gameboy Advance. Ruby remains a popular topic among fans, despite not being canon within the main Mortal Kombat storylines.
