"Shinsetsu Samurai Spirits Bushidou Retsuden," also known as "Samurai Shodown RPG," is a Japanese role-playing game developed by SNK in 1997. It was originally released on the Neo Geo CD and later ported to the Sega Saturn and Sony PlayStation. The game features characters from the "Samurai Shodown" series and retells the events of "Samurai Shodown" and "Samurai Shodown II" in greater detail. Players can choose one of six main characters: Haohmaru, Nakoruru, Ukyo Tachibana, Genjuro Kibagami, Cham Cham, and Galford. While the main plot remains similar, each character has unique dialogues and special scenes. The gameplay involves exploring an overworld, entering towns and dungeons, and engaging in turn-based battles. The combat system allows for manual input of special move commands, similar to the fighting games. The game also features typical RPG elements like equipment, items, and weapon upgrades. Although the game sold well in Japan, it was never released in the US due to long loading times and development changes. However, a fan translation has been released.
