Samurai Spirits 2: Asura Zanmaden

Samurai Spirits 2: Asura Zanmaden (サムライスピリッツ2 アスラ斬魔伝) is a two-episode OVA anime series released in 1999. It's a spin-off from SNK's fighting game series, Samurai Shodown, and is set before the events of Samurai Shodown 64: Warriors Rage. The anime follows six legendary holy warriors who are reborn a hundred years after their deaths to seek revenge against their former teammate who betrayed them. These warriors, including Charlotte, Wan Fu, Nakoruru, Galford, and Tamtam, embark on a quest to find their lost comrade Haohmaru and their nemesis, Shirou Amakusa. The story revolves around Nakoruru's humanistic ideals, believing that anyone with a heart has the right to live peacefully. It also explores the character Asura's revenge and his battles with Nakoruru. Although never released in the U.S., the OVA provides a unique addition to the Samurai Shodown universe, featuring the same voice actors as the game. It was directed by Kazuhiro Sasaki, with character designs by Aoi Nanase. Additionally, a novelization of the OVA was published by Enix and written by Takashi Umemura.
