Samurai Shodown V Special, known in Japan as Samurai Spirits Zero Special (サムライスピリッツ零SPECIAL), is a 2004 fighting game developed by SNK. It is the ninth installment in the Samurai Shodown series and the last official game for the Neo Geo platform. As an upgraded version of Samurai Shodown V, it retains the core gameplay while introducing new graphics, music, stages, and special moves. A significant addition is the 'Zetsumei Ougi' (Overkill move), a match-ending technique similar to those in Guilty Gear, which can be triggered under specific conditions. The game also features heightened gore and violence, such as characters being sliced in half, which caused controversy and led to censorship in certain releases. The character roster was also revised to include classic bosses from previous titles. Despite initial issues with censorship and resulting bugs, the game was later fixed and remains a notable title for its unique style and mechanics, as well as being the last Neo Geo title.
