Nicotine Caffeine, also known as Kafūin Nikochin (花諷院和仲), is a character in the Samurai Shodown series, first appearing in Samurai Shodown II. He is a former master swordsman and the chief priest of Koka-in Temple, a temple located deep in the Hida Mountains. The temple's name is a pun on 'Cocaine'. Nicotine was the master of Haohmaru and Genjuro Kibagami. In his younger years, he was known for exorcising demons. In the story of Samurai Shodown II, he leaves his temple to save his disciples from the evil Mizuki Rashojin and places a seal on her after her defeat. He has a lighthearted personality and is often seen smiling, even in battle. Nicotine fights with a wooden staff and sealing cards. His fighting style is known for confusing opponents, and he possesses a move that can temporarily reverse controller movements. Despite his small stature, his attack range is effective in close combat. Although he primarily appears in cameos or background stories after Samurai Shodown II, he remains a beloved character in the series. His name is derived from the game director, Yasushi Adachi's, addiction to coffee and cigarettes at the time.
