Liu Yunfei

Liu Yunfei (劉 雲飛, Liú Yúnfēi) is a character in SNK's fighting game series *Samurai Shodown*, first appearing in *Samurai Shodown V*. Designed by Nobuhiro Watsuki, he is voiced by Satoshi Taki and Tōru Ōkawa in the games. Liu Yunfei's backstory is set in 800 A.D., where he makes a deal with a demon called "The Dark Emperor" in his pursuit of power, causing him to lose control and kill his wife. He is then sealed in a boulder by his eight students. A millennium later, he is freed when the demon leaves him to possess another. To redeem himself, he sets out to track down and destroy the demon. He ultimately sacrifices himself to defeat the demon by taking possession of its host, Gaoh, and urges the freed Gaoh to slay him. After death, he is reunited with his wife in heaven. Liu Yunfei is a bitter yet honorable man, haunted by his past, who seeks to destroy the Dark Emperor for redemption, even at the cost of his life. His fighting style is based on Chinese broadsword techniques and incorporates wuxia-style lightness skills, notably his air dashes. In gameplay, he is known for his unique aerial mobility.
