In the world of Final Fantasy VII, "AVALANCHE" is an eco-terrorist organization opposing the Shinra Electric Power Company. It consists of two groups: the first being the main antagonists in Before Crisis -Final Fantasy VII-, and the second being the group the main heroes of Final Fantasy VII belong to at the beginning of the game. AVALANCHE's goal is to protect the planet from the misuse of mako energy by Shinra. They believe Shinra's actions are draining the planet's life force, ultimately leading to its destruction. Therefore, they take radical measures, including attacking mako reactors and fighting Shinra's army. The original AVALANCHE was more extreme, even resorting to ruthless tactics, while the second generation led by Barret Wallace is relatively moderate and more focused on protecting civilians. This organization plays a significant role in Final Fantasy VII and its spin-offs, with its members fighting to save the planet.
