Lucrecia Crescent (ルクレツィア・クレシェント) is a non-playable character in the Final Fantasy VII series. She is Sephiroth's biological mother. Lucrecia initially appeared briefly in optional scenes in Final Fantasy VII, but her role was expanded in Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII-, giving her a larger role within the Shinra Electric Power Company Science Department and crediting her with research into Chaos. Lucrecia was once a Class A Biotechnologist for the Shinra Company and worked as an assistant to Grimoire Valentine, Vincent Valentine's father. Later, she became involved in the Jenova Project and entered into a relationship with Professor Hojo. She agreed to use her unborn child as a test subject for the Jenova Project, implanting him with Jenova cells in the embryonic stage. This led to her experiencing pain and visions of the future atrocities her son would commit. She is emotionally volatile and often fixated on her research, even if it leads to unethical behavior. She suffers from extreme guilt over her actions, which led her to attempt suicide, though she was unable to die due to the Jenova cells in her body. She eventually fled to a cave and encased herself in crystal, where she endured her painful memories alone.
