Julia Heartilly is a non-player character in Final Fantasy VIII. She is a famous Galbadian pianist and singer, as well as Laguna Loire's first love interest and Rinoa Heartilly's mother. Julia sings the game's theme song, "Eyes On Me," which is a song dedicated to Laguna. She is portrayed as an elegant and charismatic woman, not only as a talented musician but also as someone gentle and longing for love. Julia's early life was mainly spent in Deling City, Galbadia, where she played the piano in a hotel bar. She yearned to break free from her role as a bar pianist and wished to compose and sing her own songs. After meeting Laguna, she found the inspiration to create "Eyes On Me." Although her romance with Laguna was brief and unfulfilled, it significantly impacted the game's plot and themes, and continued through her daughter, Rinoa. Julia married Galbadian General Fury Caraway, with whom she had Rinoa, but tragically died in a car accident at the young age of 28.
