Final Fantasy VIII is a role-playing video game developed and published by Square (now Square Enix) for the PlayStation in 1999. It is the eighth main installment in the Final Fantasy series. The game is set in a fantasy world with science fiction elements, following a group of young mercenaries led by Squall Leonhart as they become embroiled in a conflict with a sorceress named Edea Kramer. The game is known for its unique 'Junction System,' which replaced traditional magic points, requiring players to draw magic from enemies and junction it to character stats for combat and stat boosts. It also features the popular 'Triple Triad' card game. Final Fantasy VIII is notable for its realistically proportioned characters, cinematic cutscenes, and theme song 'Eyes on Me.' The game was a commercial success, selling over 9.6 million copies worldwide. It has been re-released on multiple platforms, including PC, Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Android, and iOS.
