Adel is a major antagonist in Final Fantasy VIII, a powerful sorceress and former ruler of the technologically advanced nation of Esthar. Known for her brutal rule and thirst for power, Adel has a large, muscular frame, leading to debate about her gender. She kidnapped young girls in search of a successor, sparking the Sorceress War that led to her imprisonment. In the game, Adel is manipulated by the powerful sorceress Ultimecia, who needs her to accomplish her Time Compression plan. During battle, Adel is fused with Rinoa and drains her HP to regenerate, making the fight complex. Adel possesses powerful magic, including Ultima, and is described as cruel, ruthless, and power-hungry. While a minor antagonist, she is crucial to the story's development. Her English name is usually spelled Adel, in Japanese it is アデル (Aderu), and in Italian it is Adele.
