Odine

Dr. Odine is a non-player character in Final Fantasy VIII, an eccentric scientist from Esthar specializing in sorceress research. Though a minor character, his inventions profoundly shape the world and influence major plot points. Notably, he created the Junction System, used by Balamb Garden to empower its SeeDs. Odine is a small man with a large, ludicrous collar, speaking with a German accent. Dedicated to his work, he lacks moral empathy and provides knowledge to both sides of conflicts. He is elated when his inventions gain wider use, excited about their longevity. Starting as a monster researcher, he discovered Guardian Forces and, with a sorceress, developed para-magic for ordinary humans, utilized at Balamb Garden. He researched the Lunatic Pandora for Sorceress Adel and helped Laguna trap her. He later assists Squall's party, allowing them to travel to the future to fight Ultimecia.
