Ultimecia, also known as アルティミシア in Japanese, is the main antagonist of the 1999 video game Final Fantasy VIII, developed by Square. She is a powerful sorceress from the future who seeks to compress all of time and space, essentially making herself a "living god". Ultimecia possesses immense magical abilities, allowing her to manipulate others, bend them to her will, and manifest subconscious thoughts and inanimate objects into life. She is the first unambiguously female antagonist in the series; although the Cloud of Darkness has a distinctly female appearance, it is considered sexless in spin-offs. In the game, she possesses Edea Kramer, using her as a pawn in her plans. Eventually, the protagonist Squall Leonhart and his companions confront her, working to stop her ambitions. Ultimecia's final form is a bizarre entity that has absorbed time and space, symbolizing her desire for omnipotence. During battles, she uses powerful magic attacks and time manipulation skills, posing a considerable threat to the player.
