The Cutting Trigger, known as カッテングトリガー in Japanese, is a mid-tier weapon for Squall Leonhart in Final Fantasy VIII. It's characterized by a sharp cutting blade replacing the gunblade on Squall's signature Revolver. The Cutting Trigger provides 18 Strength and 255 Hit Rate, and it grants Squall access to the Limit Breaks 'Rough Divide' and 'Fated Circle'. Players can obtain this weapon by trading in 400 gil, a Mesmerize Blade, and 8 Screws at a Junk Shop. Notably, the Cutting Trigger is not limited to Final Fantasy VIII; it has also appeared as an optional weapon for Squall in subsequent Final Fantasy titles, such as Dissidia Final Fantasy NT where it is an unlockable weapon and also in Final Fantasy Opera Omnia. This weapon is part of a weapon modification system where players collect materials to upgrade Squall's weapons instead of buying new ones, a unique aspect of Final Fantasy VIII's mechanics.
