Maverick

The "Maverick," or マーベリック in Japanese, is a recurring weapon in Final Fantasy VIII. It is Zell Dincht's second obtainable weapon, acquired by trading 200 gil, a Dragon Fin, and a Spider Web at any junk shop. This fist-type weapon provides 15 Strength and 99 Hit Rate. In combat, it allows Zell to deliver direct punches to enemies, with a design consisting of black leather gloves and metal plates on the knuckles. Beyond Final Fantasy VIII, the Maverick also appears in various Final Fantasy spin-offs, such as Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia, Pictlogica Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy Airborne Brigade, Final Fantasy Record Keeper, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, and Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin. It even takes the form of a gun in the non-Final Fantasy game, Blood of Bahamut. The term "Maverick" itself refers to an independent-minded person who refuses to conform to the policies of a group to which they belong, perhaps hinting at the character traits of Zell Dincht.
