Combine

In Final Fantasy VIII, "Combine" (コンバイン) is a special ability of Rinoa Heartilly, the female protagonist, where she fights alongside her loyal dog, Angelo. This ability enables Rinoa to cooperate with Angelo to perform various attacks and support actions. Angelo's skills are divided into two types: arbitrary and random. Arbitrary skills are randomly activated after selecting the Combine command, while random skills are automatically triggered during battles when specific conditions are met. As Rinoa's crisis level increases, arbitrary skills are more likely to use the lower skills in the status menu, and the trigger probability of random skills will also increase. Additionally, "Combine" includes Rinoa's special state "Vary," in which Rinoa can continuously use offensive magic without reducing the number of magic uses, but cannot be controlled by the player until the battle ends. To use Vary, players need to advance the game until they obtain the airship Ragnarok. Using Combine allows not only utilizing Angelo's various skills but also enhancing Rinoa's magical output in the Vary state, making Rinoa a versatile combat character.
