Desperado

Original Title:デスペラ―ド

Languages:

  • Chinese: 绝地反击
  • Japanese: デスペラ―ド
  • English: Desperado
In Final Fantasy VIII, "Desperado" (デスペラード) is Laguna Loire's Limit Break. It has a chance of activating when Laguna's HP is low or under the effect of the 'Aura' status. When triggered, Laguna first throws a grenade into the middle of his enemies, then shoots a grappling hook and swings while firing at the enemies with his machine gun. Finally, he jumps off the rope, turns his back to the enemies, and the grenade explodes, dealing physical damage to all enemies based on Laguna's Strength stat. 'Desperado' is Laguna's only Limit Break and is highly effective in combat, especially against groups of enemies. The name of this skill is related to the desperado of the American frontier, and it appears in other Final Fantasy games as a skill for gunners, such as Sazh's 'Cold Blood' in Final Fantasy XIII. Additionally, ranged DPS classes in Final Fantasy XIV also have a level 2 Limit Break called "Desperado." This skill features unique visuals and mechanics across different games but maintains the characteristic of using firearms and explosives to attack.
