In Final Fantasy VIII, "Sorcery" or "Magic" refers to the game's unique magic system and world-building. Unlike other entries in the series, FFVIII does not utilize a traditional Magic Point (MP) system. Instead, magic is "drawn" from enemies or the environment and stocked up to 100 units per spell. This magic is then not only used in battle, but also "junctioned" onto character stats to enhance their abilities. This junction system is intertwined with summoned monsters called "Guardian Forces" (GF), which also gain ability points from combat. Sorceresses are a special class of humans who are able to naturally wield magic, thought to be descendants of the ancient god Hyne. They must transfer their powers to another individual when they are near death. Their magic typically manifests in various forms and elemental properties, with the power to manipulate time and space. The protagonists become embroiled in conflicts with various sorceresses as the plot unfolds, revealing deeper secrets of sorcery.
