Ruby Light

In Final Fantasy VIII, "Ruby Light" (ルビ―の光) is the signature ability of the Guardian Force Carbuncle. When summoned, Carbuncle emerges from the ground and emits a light from the ruby on its forehead, granting the Reflect status to the entire party. This status bounces most magic spells aimed at the party back to the enemies. This ability is highly effective against magic-using foes, especially in certain fights like the first encounter with Edea. Carbuncle is not an offensive summon, so it’s primarily used for defense and support. The animation of the skill shows Carbuncle jumping out of a small hole in the ground, releasing the ruby light, and then disappearing. Beyond Final Fantasy VIII, “Ruby Light” is a recurring skill in the Final Fantasy series, typically used by Carbuncle, with the effect of granting the Reflect status. Its effect might vary across different games, such as granting Barrier in Final Fantasy VII Remake, which reduces physical damage.
