Excaliber

In Final Fantasy VIII, the "Excalibur" (エクスカリバー), also sometimes referred to as the Holy Sword, is not a conventional weapon that players can obtain. Instead, it is a special attack that is sometimes used by Gilgamesh in battle. The sword is not present in the game as a traditional piece of equipment and cannot be equipped or upgraded. Gilgamesh randomly uses one of four attacks, including Excalibur, which deals moderate physical damage. While Excalibur is usually seen as a powerful and holy sword within the Final Fantasy series, in Final Fantasy VIII, it functions more as a signature ability of Gilgamesh. It is often contrasted with the “Excalipoor” (エクスカリパー), another of Gilgamesh’s weapons that only deals 1 point of damage. Therefore, the Excalibur in Final Fantasy VIII is more of a character skill than an actual piece of equipment. Players looking to experience the power of Excalibur can only hope for Gilgamesh to appear and use this ability.
