In Final Fantasy VIII, Cura, known as ケアルラ in Japanese, is a restore magic spell, a higher-level healing spell than Cure but weaker than Curaga. Cura can replenish a target's HP or be junctioned to character stats, particularly HP, for a boost. This spell can be acquired by drawing it from enemies, draw points on maps, or refining items using the Guardian Force Siren. In the early game, Cura is an effective way to boost the HP stat, but later in the game, the higher-level Curaga often replaces Cura. In the 2013 PC re-release, using the Magic Booster grants 100 Cura spells directly. Cura has appeared multiple times in the series, typically as the second tier of healing magic. Compared to Cure, Cura restores more HP and can deal damage to undead enemies. It is commonly used by White Mages but can also be utilized by other jobs. Since its debut in Final Fantasy III, Cura has become a recurring second tier healing spell in most titles.
