Languages:

  • Chinese: 即死
  • Japanese: デス
  • English: Death
In Final Fantasy VIII, "Death" (デス), is an indirect magic spell primarily used to attempt to inflict instant death on a target enemy. Rather than causing direct damage, it has a chance to instantly eliminate an enemy, regardless of their HP. Beyond its combat use, Death has a crucial function as a resource that can be "Junctioned" to character stats. Players acquire Death spells by "Drawing" them from enemies or refining them from items, storing them in quantities to boost various character attributes, such as strength, speed, and luck. Notably, it is particularly useful when junctioned to the Luck stat. Additionally, Death can be junctioned to attack attributes to imbue attacks with an instant death effect or to defensive attributes to resist instant death attacks. While it often has a low success rate, if it does work, it can be very effective. The Death spell is also usable through certain items and can be triggered in some character's abilities and limit breaks. Overall, Death in Final Fantasy VIII functions both as a powerful offensive tool and a crucial character enhancement resource.
