Fira

In Final Fantasy VIII, 'Fira' is a mid-level fire magic spell, stronger than 'Fire' but weaker than 'Firaga'. Players can obtain Fira by drawing it from enemies or by refining items. Fira can be used as an attack spell, or it can be junctioned to Guardian Forces to boost character stats like strength and magic. It is moderately powerful against enemies weak to fire. Besides direct use, Fira can be refined into the more powerful Firaga spell. Many monsters in the game, especially those between levels 20 and 29 such as Bombs, use or carry Fira magic. Fira also appears in other games of the series, usually as a basic fire magic spell and a common skill for the Black Mage class. The mechanics of Fira in Final Fantasy VIII are unique; they encourage exploration and experimentation with various uses of magic rather than just attacking.
