Shell

In Final Fantasy VIII, "Shell" is a significant magic spell and status effect. As an indirect magic, Shell halves the magic damage taken by the target for a period of time. It can be cast not only through the magic command but also through some characters' Limit Breaks. Furthermore, Shell is a magic that can be "junctioned" to a character's stats, particularly boosting Spirit and providing elemental damage resistance. Players can acquire Shell magic by drawing it from enemies or refining it from items, as well as through certain special events. There's also a support ability called "Auto-Shell" that provides a permanent Shell status. Shell is an important defensive tool in battles, especially against magic attacks, and can significantly enhance a character's survivability, making it a key element that players need to understand and utilize effectively in the game.
