Slow, or スロウ in Japanese, is a common magic spell in Final Fantasy VIII. Its primary effect is to decrease the target's speed. In battles, it can be directly cast to slow down enemy actions or be used as a status attack to inflict the Slow status on enemies. Additionally, Slow magic can be junctioned to character stats, increasing speed or providing resistance to the Slow status. It is a counterpart to Haste magic, and is a common debuff throughout the Final Fantasy series. In Final Fantasy VIII, players can acquire Slow magic by drawing it from specific enemies or magic points in the environment, or by refining items. Some character's special abilities can also cast Slow, such as Selphie's Slot Limit Break and Rinoa's Angel Wing. While not as powerful as some buff spells, Slow remains a valuable tool in strategic battles, effectively controlling enemy actions and creating advantages for players. It is common in early battles and can be used against many early bosses. Furthermore, Slow is a recurring spell in the Final Fantasy series, with varying characteristics in different entries.
