Break

Original Title:ブレイク

Languages:

  • Chinese: 石化
  • Japanese: ブレイク
  • English: Break
In Final Fantasy VIII, "Break (ブレイク)" is an indirect magic spell that inflicts the "Petrify" status effect. This spell can be used both offensively and defensively. Through junctioning with Guardian Forces, it can be added to attacks or used to increase resistance to petrification. Break spells can be acquired by drawing them from enemies or specific locations, or by refining items. In the game, players need to collect and stock the "Break" spell and then junction it to character stats to enhance their abilities. Besides direct use, "Break" can also be cast through certain items or skills, and can even be used through some character's Limit Breaks. Its versatility makes it crucial in battles, enabling the player to both inflict the harmful petrify effect on enemies and enhance the character's own petrification resistance. However, when an enemy is petrified, the player will not gain experience points or item drops. The "Break" spell is also related to specific locations or clues in the game's world, such as an invisible draw point on a bridge containing exactly one Break spell. This is a recurring spell in the Final Fantasy series, appearing in different ways throughout various games, but usually with a connection to the petrification status.
