最终幻想8, ファイナルファンタジーVIII, Final Fantasy VIII
In the Final Fantasy series, the "Cottage" is a recurring restorative item, primarily used on the world map or at save points. It fully restores the HP and MP of all party members and heals all status ailments. In Final Fantasy VIII, the Cottage can also heal all Guardian Forces (GF) at once. Generally more effective than tents, the Cottage has been phased out since Final Fantasy X, due to save points also fully healing the party. In Final Fantasy VIII, Cottages can be bought at shops or created via the item refinement system, and can be obtained by refining other items or dropped by specific enemies. The Cottage not only offers crucial out-of-battle recovery but is also used in item refining system, further enhancing the team’s combat power.
The battle system in Final Fantasy VIII differs from traditional Final Fantasy games, relying on the "Draw" and "Junction" systems rather than traditional Magic Points (MP). Characters "draw" magic from enemies or draw points on the map, then "junction" them to their stats for boosts. Guardian Forces, which are the summonable monsters in the game, are also junctioned to characters to provide additional abilities and stat bonuses. The Cottage’s presence further emphasizes the resource management and strategic nature of the game.
The Cottage reflects some of the series' traditional elements. It is similar to a Tent but is more powerful. Conceptually, the Cottage is a convenient place to rest, allowing adventurers to recover during long journeys and prepare for the next battle. While the Cottage has phased out in later games, it remains a quintessential item from early Final Fantasy games and a fan-favorite classic.
