Elem Atk

In Final Fantasy VIII, "Elem-Atk" or "Elemental Attack" is a system that allows players to imbue their physical attacks with elemental properties. Players need to junction a Guardian Force (GF) to a character, and that GF must have the "Elem-Atk-J" ability mastered. Once junctioned, players can select elemental magic from their inventory and junction it to the character's elemental attack slot, causing every physical attack to inflict the chosen elemental property. This allows players to exploit enemy elemental weaknesses for increased damage. However, if an enemy absorbs the element, the attack will heal them instead. Therefore, strategic use and switching based on enemy weaknesses is required. Guardian Forces possessing "Elem-Atk-J" include Quezacotl, Shiva, Brothers, Leviathan, Pandemona, Alexander, and Doomtrain, and can be taught to other GFs using items, while Ifrit possesses this ability by default in all versions except the original Japanese. The power of the elemental attack is dependent on the quantity and tier of the magic junctioned.
