Ribbon

Original Title:リボン

Languages:

  • Chinese: 缎带
  • Japanese: リボン
  • English: Ribbon
In Final Fantasy VIII, the "Ribbon" (リボン) is a significant item and support ability. When equipped, it grants immunity to all status abnormalities, without the need for any ST-Def-J junctions. The Ribbon is unique because no Guardian Force (GF) learns it natively; it must be taught to a GF using an item of the same name. Initially obtainable in the Chocobo World minigame, the Ribbon became an extremely rare drop from Angelo Search in the Final Fantasy VIII Remastered. The Ribbon is a recurring piece of equipment in the Final Fantasy series that protects the wearer in some manner. In Final Fantasy VIII, it offers protection against various status ailments including Sudden Death, Poison, Petrify, Darkness, Silence, Berserk, Zombie, Sleep, Slow, Stop, Doom, Confuse, Curse, drain effects, and Vit 0. Notably, it's the only way to be immune to Vit 0. However, it does not protect against attacks such as Zantetsuken, Degenerator, or Kamikaze. Although useful against enemies like Malboros, ST-Def-J x4 can also suffice. The Ribbon's true value lies in freeing up status defense junctions, allowing players to use the support ability slot for other enhancements. However, the difficulty in obtaining it and its exclusive availability through Chocobo World in the original game have made it a rare item.
