Dark Ammo

In Final Fantasy VIII, Dark Ammo is a special type of ammunition used by Irvine's Limit Break, 'Shot'. This ammo can be purchased from shops or obtained by refining items, such as by using Ifrit's 'Ammo-RF' ability to refine Poison Powder and Venom Fangs. Dark Ammo's main feature is that it deals physical damage while having a chance to inflict status ailments like poison, darkness, silence, sleep, or slow on the enemy. Its damage output depends on Irvine's Strength stat and the enemy's Vitality stat. Another useful function of Dark Ammo is its ability to put enemies to sleep, allowing Irvine's other shooting attacks to not wake them up, enabling strategic attacks or magic drawing. While not the most powerful ammo in the game, Dark Ammo's control effects are quite useful in the early and mid-game, especially against certain enemies. In the later stages, it can be used as a supporting tactic in battles.
