Final Fantasy VIII is a role-playing video game developed by Square (now Square Enix) and released for the PlayStation in 1999. It is the eighth main installment in the Final Fantasy series. Set on an unnamed fantasy world with science fiction elements, the game follows Squall Leonhart and his companions as they are drawn into a conflict sparked by the sorceress Edea Kramer. The game is noted for its visual advancements, featuring realistically proportioned characters and pre-rendered backgrounds. A unique 'junction system' replaces the traditional magic points, where players draw magic from enemies and the environment to enhance their character's abilities. 'Guardian Forces' (GFs) are summons that provide battle skills and stat boosts when junctioned to characters. Final Fantasy VIII also includes a collectible card-based minigame called 'Triple Triad'. The 'Running Fire' is an item within the game, primarily used for item refining and weapon modification. It can be obtained through various methods such as monster drops, stealing, item synthesis, or through a mini-game.
