Dark Matter

In Final Fantasy VIII, Dark Matter (Japanese: ダークマター) is a very rare item with multiple uses. It can be obtained through item refining, requiring the Guardian Force (GF) Siren with the Tool-RF ability, and 100 Curse Spikes. The Siren needs to be level 100 in original PS version to refine it (no level limit for PC and Remastered). Dark Matter's primary use is as a material for magic refining; it can be refined into 100 Ultima spells using the GF Bahamut. Additionally, it can be refined into Luck-J Scrolls (using GF Eden) and Shaman Stones, which can then be refined into Rosetta Stones. Most importantly, Dark Matter teaches Quistis her ultimate Blue Magic spell, Shockwave Pulsar. In short, Dark Matter is an extremely important and powerful item in Final Fantasy VIII, indispensable for enhancing character abilities and learning skills.
