Chef's Knife

In Final Fantasy VIII, the "Chef's Knife" (Japanese: ほうちょう) is both the signature weapon of the enemy Tonberry and a summon attack, as well as an item that can be obtained by the player. As an enemy ability, Tonberry slowly approaches a target before using its Chef's Knife for a melee attack, dealing significant non-elemental damage. After defeating the Tonberry King, players can obtain the Tonberry summon, which uses the Chef's Knife as its attack. The damage can be increased based on the summon’s level and stats, accompanied by a unique "doink" sound. Additionally, the Chef's Knife also exists as an item, obtained by stealing from Tonberries or refining cards. This item enhances summon compatibility and can be refined into Death spells or AP Ammo. The presence of the Chef's Knife often indicates Tonberry's unique menacing nature in the game, highlighting its slow but deadly attacks. Its multiple uses make it strategically important in the game.
