In Final Fantasy VIII, the Chocobo's Tag is a special item that allows players to change the name of the Chicobo, Boko, in the game. This item is primarily obtained by completing the Chocobo Forest puzzles and in the mini-game 'Chocobo World'. In the original version, 'Chocobo World' was a mini-game playable through the PocketStation device, where players could level up Boko and unlock various rewards. In Final Fantasy VIII Remastered, due to the removal of 'Chocobo World', players can obtain Boko's powerful abilities directly in the main game. Although the 'Chocobo's Tag' itself cannot be used for magic refining, item refining or weapon modification, it is a key item for unlocking Boko's full potential, allowing players to customize the name of this unique character. Aside from changing the name, the tag does not have any other direct game functions. Boko, as a unique summon character, has distinctive attacks like Choco Fire, Choco Flare, Choco Meteor, and the ultimate skill ChocoBocle, the power of which depends on the player's average party level. Therefore, the 'Chocobo's Tag' plays a unique and collectible role in the game.
